Introduction:

My education journey started awhile ago. I had always wanted to go to college and in 1997, I was finally in a position to make college a reality. I took courses at Wichita State University first, and then at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. I graduated with high honors from Friends with a bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems. This education enabled me to enter a new career field of medical outcomes research.

In 2007, I began thinking about my future, especially since my children were finishing high school and going on to college. I realized that I wanted to further my education, and after much contemplation, I started the master's degree program at the School of Library and Information Management (SLIM) at Emporia State University.

It has been an incredible journey of personal growth and professional development during these past two years at SLIM. I have gained extensive knowledge of the information transfer process, from innovation through preservation. During my coursework, I have acquired new skills through observations and research projects along with an understanding of how people search for information. I have also learned about theories in organization and management and the importance of technology that can be utilized in a variety of environments. And, I have developed a strong desire to be of assistance in helping people and organizations with their information needs.

During my classes at SLIM, I have written papers and research proposals. I have given presentations on a variety of topics, and I have participated in group activities including posting on blogs and wikis. I intend to use my newly acquired knowledge and professionals skills for the service of others, whether that be in an academic library, special library, or within a research organization. The possibilities are numerous, and I am looking forward to the future with great enthusiasm as I enter the challenging, yet rewarding field of information professionals and librarianship.
